Working With a Scorpio Coworker: Get Past Their Invisible Gate First
Your Scorpio coworker seems cool, hard to approach, and quiet in meetings. Once you clear their unspoken bar, they become the most reliable teammate you have.
At Monday's team meeting, the new manager spent twenty minutes walking everyone through a new quoting process. Everyone nodded along. Ming, sitting in the corner, didn't say a word. He just wrote three lines in his notebook. After the meeting, he walked into the manager's office with his water bottle. “At step three, if the client changes the specs last minute, who redoes the numbers?” The manager paused, flipped back to the slide, and realized that step really wasn't spelled out.
Scorpios often come across this way at work. Few words, flat expression, like they don't care. But when they do ask something, it usually hits the exact weak spot.
They don't fight for the mic, but they see everything
A Scorpio rarely raises their hand first in meetings. While everyone else debates, they're mostly listening and noticing who's got real reasons and who's just agreeing. They don't like taking a position before they've thought it through. They'd rather talk it over privately afterward.
New coworkers often find them hard to approach. You say hi, they nod. You invite them to order lunch together, they say they brought their own. That doesn't mean they dislike you. They're still figuring out whether you can be counted on.
What that invisible gate is checking
Before a Scorpio really works with someone, they quietly check a few things. Do you finish what you're given on time? When you make a mistake, do you blame someone else? Do you say the same things in front of the boss as you do behind their back?
This comes from the sign. Scorpio's modern ruler is Pluto and its traditional ruler is Mars. Pluto makes them care about what's real and what cards people are holding. Mars gives them a streak that hates losing. So they can't split work comfortably with someone they can't read. They need to know you won't drop the ball when it counts.
Quiet on the surface, quietly keeping score
A Scorpio's competitive side rarely shows on their face. They won't brag about their numbers in the group chat, but they know the month-end figures better than anyone. When a teammate lands a big client, they'll say congrats, then maybe go home and study that person's pitch to see where they fell short.
There might be a spreadsheet on their computer that only they understand, tracking monthly deals, complaint counts, and how much they improved over last month. Truth is, the person they compete with most is often themselves from last month.
Pointed in the right direction, that drive makes them the steadiest person on the team. But if they think someone climbed by connections or by taking credit, they won't make a scene. They'll remember it, and they'll hold back a lot when working with that person later.
How to work well with them
When you hand them something, be clear about the goal and the scope, then let them plan it. Scorpios hate being hovered over. Ping them every two hours and they'll feel you don't trust them. Agree on a check-in time instead, and they'll usually finish early.
Keep your own promises too. Delivering on time once does more than saying “this project really matters to me” ten times. When there's credit to give, say their name in the meeting. What they care about is fairness, and being seen makes them willing to put in that extra bit. Once you're past the gate, they'll start warning you which contract has a loophole and which client needs careful handling. That's when you'll know you're one of their people.
When Byeol Bunny started a part-time job at a new carrot field, the old mole there didn't speak to him for a whole week. Then one day Byeol Bunny cleared an entire row of weeds perfectly. The old mole poked his head out of his tunnel and said just one thing: “Come in early tomorrow. I'll teach you how to read the soil.”
